We traveled from Nantucket for my daughter’s dental procedure under sedation after being referred to this office because they accepted her insurance. Due to the distance and logistics involved, we had to leave the island the day before, paying for ferry tickets, hotel, and a rental car to make sure we arrived on time for her appointment scheduled at 8:00 AM. When the appointment was originally scheduled, I was told by the young girl that works at the reception to arrive about 15 minutes early. The reminder messages we received only mentioned the 8:00 AM appointment time and completing paperwork beforehand. We arrived around 7:47 AM and were then told they would not see my daughter because we were “late” and supposedly should have arrived at 7:30 for medication preparation. One staff member was especially dismissive and spoke to me in a very condescending way, as if I had been irresponsible. At that moment, my daughter who already has severe anxiety regarding dental treatment and requires sedation , was extremely nervous and ended up crying and apologizing for being late to me and to them, as it was her fault she was being turned away. They claimed I had been told during a reminder phone call to arrive at 7:30, but I got that call the day before the appointment while traveling on the ferry and genuinely do not recall hearing that. At that point, it became their word against mine. What made this even more upsetting is that the staff knew we were traveling from Nantucket and understood the amount of planning, cost, and stress involved. Even if there had been a misunderstanding, there was absolutely no empathy or attempt to help find a solution. They simply offered to reschedule it for the summer. To make matters worse, during our original consultation appointment, we waited nearly 40 minutes to be seen by the dentist, yet there seemed to be zero understanding or flexibility shown toward us. The lack of communication, compassion, and professionalism made an already stressful situation far more traumatic for both me and my child. I've been in this battle for around a year, she is anxious to the point she faints just by walking into a dentist office and won't let me help her brush her teeth so and having her sitting at the dentist chair for the consultation was already a victory. She has an abscess and now I have to start over and find a new place which will only aggravate things. I'm battling Lupus and going through infusion treatment which is doing a number on me. I was exhausted but did my best to travel and get there before 8 AM . After being turned away we just sat in the car for about 20 min both crying in disbelief...
